About Us
Instead of a long story about us I’d rather tell you about the purpose of this website, which is to provide useful answers to people in need. These pages are here so that you can print out the page for doctor consultation. Your doctor will not approve alternatives unless he/she can see medical documents validating their use. This is why the pages include medical studies and quotes. Print out any page through your web browser. Use these tools so that you and your doctor can work together in a comprehensive manner using as many tools as possible. Many people think that alternatives are one route and medical another. The choice
Our story in a nut-shell is that my seven-year-old-daughter, Kayla was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on January 4th 2008. Thus we entered into a whirlwind of a medical nightmare that was far from normal. (Kayla had many complications.) I spent hundreds of hours doing research because I wanted to understand the disease, chemo, side effects, lasting effects, (long term damage that can be permanent) vitamins that are safe while on chemo, hygiene, and so much more.
When Kayla was first diagnosed I spent many hours on the Internet and I usually left it more depressed than when I started. Why? Because I did not believe the many sites that offered cures and the medical sites were lacking in really useful information to help me fight this fight. Fighting was what I wanted to do but I did not have tools. The doctors were addressing the cancer, while I felt it was my job to lessen side effects. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, there is a lack of attention and valid answers to the many side effects that can happen from chemo. This is why this site was put together. Believe it or not, alternatives work beautifully along with medical. Kayla is the proof positive of this.
We are now six months into treatment and are winning our fight. We have gotten through some very dark times and are now on the other side. Yet there are no guarantees. In the least, her quality of life has been improved greatly by using alternatives alongside medicine. Please, use your browser to print out any pages of information that you would like to use. Give them to your doctor to read. It is far more likely to get approval by using these.
Contained in this site are all of the answers that I found and how I found them. You should know that I was forced to look for answers because every time medical staff said that nothing could be done for particular side effects, I did not believe it. For instance, on the mouth sores, the doctors gave us one remedy for pain. That is all. Nothing was offered for prevention. Yet the sores were so bad Kayla would not eat or drink. This to me, was so dire that a solution had to be found. The same happened for nausea and the many other side effects that occurred because of treatment, meaning the answers that medicine provided were not enough, so I felt forced into finding workable answers that our doctors could approve.
Some of these answers may work for you, some may not. Every patient is different because every patient comes to cancer with different deficiencies and responses. Here are all the tools that I have found and also tips from other patients and survivors. The purpose here is to provide you with information that may help you during your own travels through cancer.
Please know, that all of the things that I have used were approved by Kayla’s oncologists. With the many different types of chemo and their combinations, there can be a multitude of reactions when supplements are added to the daily regimen. Do not take any chances. Go through your doctor and do not do ANYTHING on your own. The risks are too great. Use great caution and follow the expert medical advice from your doctors.
Post Script: it is now thirty months later since writing this page and Kayla has successfully completed treatment. Now our actions are completely focused upon health and avoiding any chemicals or foods that could contribute to a new cancer in the future. This is a great problem to have as we have made it through and life is so, so good with out chemo! I wish the same for you. May 2010
Best Wishes,
Debbie Witter
