What do I mean by dangers? Well, if you are going to be doing cancer treatment then your body will be going through stress caused by the medical process of eradicating the cancer that you have.

What follows is a list of dangers that will also have an article addressing each of them thoroughly so that you can avoid these problems:

• Germ prevention. I use a mixture of white vinegar and alcohol with distilled water for cleaning most man-made surfaces. Meaning plastic, glass, and metals.

• All sandwich meats and packaged meats like poultry, beef, (cook hamburger meat well-done to kill any pathogens), etc., all need to be washed with water. We were also warned to clean all produce thoroughly before eating. After washing sandwich meats I would also nuke in the microwave for 20 seconds on high. Some treatments compromise the immune system therefore patients have to be extra careful, especially with food and food prep.

• We would wash our hands up to our elbows like surgeons do, as soon as we walked into our home. This was especially true during leukemia treatment, which causes the immune system to be severely compromised during certain times in treatment. You need to find out if this will happen with your specific chemotherapy regiment. And if so, take the necessary precautions to protect yourself.

• Question all visitors before they come to your home. I discovered the hard way that most American’s are pretty ignorant concerning contagion and common sense precautions. I would literally ask people who wanted to come over these questions: “Does anyone in your home have a scratchy throat or nose?” “Sniffles anyone?” “Does anyone have any signs of illness at all?” “Has there been any stomach upsets in recent days?” “Any unusual fatigue?”

• It might sound over the top but you would be surprised with the number of people who tried to come over with sickness. One extreme example was a person who was treated for strep throat but said they felt fine. Ughhhh! Drove me crazy…

• Do not introduce new animals into the home unless you have gotten the okay from your Oncologist. Of course existing animals are fine because your body is used to them.

• All food must be fresh and free of blemishes. Always be on the look out for mold. Mold of any kind can be life threatening for immune compromised patients.
