Nail Fungus & Hyperbaric Chamber

I had to stop giving Kayla the anti-fungal for her nails because she started getting stomachaches for several days in a row. Today I decided not to give it to her anymore and she still had a stomachache tonight! Darn. The nail fungus has improved from the medication, I just know if she took it long enough to actually kill it. In the meantime we are doing the nail soaks twice a day, Lamisil cream and Nail tek as well as using the UV-C light for 1 minute. Between all of these things I am hoping we keep moving forward instead of two steps forward and one step back.

I have been doing a lot of research into Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy treatments, also known as hyperbaric chamber treatments. A friend of mine has a brain injured son, and I had promised to research brain injuries for her, and also for Kayla. Kayla is not brain injured but the chemo, especially to her central nervous system has had definite negative effects upon several cognitive functions. Here is a fantastic, educational website from a group Chamber of Hope. They have several locations in the Tampa Bay area offering free hyperbaric treatments for brain injured children. People are coming from all over the world to get these treatments for their children. Near drownings, cerebral palsy patients, autism, and so much more experience improvements from this treatment. Go to the site and read the testimonials. They will warm your soul.

After reading much of the literature, I want Kayla to get these treatments. Kayla is trying hard but the chemo has definitely left its mark on her memory, which makes school that much harder for her. So many of the fundamentals require memorization. Even with reading, the required memory for all of the word families and sounds is a large amount of information for any child to retain and monumental for a child with any kind of cognitive deficits.

The plan is to start these treatments in June after she has had her port taken out. Although it will be an hour drive each way, I don’t care, if it actually produces results it will be worth it. I am waiting for one last medical report before we schedule the port removal surgery. After that we will start hyperbaric.

It has been a busy couple of days getting an article written about brain injuries and all of the resources available for people who want to improve their cognitive functions. There is far more available that I realized. The article will get posted on my site as soon as I have completed editing it.

I LOVE the Internet. Years ago when I would do research the only resource available were library reference books. This meant bringing pen and paper for hours of work because everything had to be hand written. Ugg, it was such a chore! The Internet is the BEST resource for finding information. Even if it is for finding the right book to purchase it is so much easier than going to a book store and reading book jackets for hours. Internet research will be even better when google completes all of their scanning projects. For me, doing this type of work, hunting for answers is like being in a candy store.
